Sometimes it is as structurally strong as Normal steel, with the benefit of saving 25% – 50% or more off the price. Surplus steel is essentially new steel with some minor imperfections. These imperfections can be bad paint finish, insufficient galvanising, off standard wall thickness, weld faults or non-standard lengths.

    Surplus steel is a term used for selling steel that does not meet compliance, government standards or normal sizes. Much like retail uses “seconds” for second rate stock. Other reasons for the Surplus items may be due to weathering, dents or simply unconventional wall thicknesses. It may be nearly perfect in quality, but it is classified as Surplus with no warranty and no promise of compliance.

  • Why buy Surplus steel products?

    Surplus steel products is heavily discounted and although it may suit your purpose, just like first-class materials, it is sold well under first-class steel prices. Not to be used for projects that need to meet structural compliance and standards. It is ideal for all non-structural applications. Vegetable gardens, edging, paths, decorative and other similar non-structural projects are perfect for downgrade steel. Using the Surplus steel can save you a lot of money.

    Not for specific purposes. Obviously, you cannot use some Surplus steel for work that needs to meet engineering standards and compliance.     This will depend on whether it is downgraded from a supplier or second hand from our scrapyard purchases. When we purchase Surplus Steel products stock from a supplier, the discount will be based on condition and damage. In some instances, you may be able to complete your project for 25%-50% of the full price alternative.

  • What downgrade steel do you have in stock?

This is part we cannot make a commitment. Because the stock changes continuously and we never know what we will find from one day to the next, we cannot publish our stock online. Your best option is to visit our local yard and inspect our stock.
